ASL is proud to introduce our award-winning team of professionals that have fun and go above and beyond the call of duty to provide the highest level of customer service. President and founder Scott Waterbury, and Director of Sales and Events, Mike Ertle encourage and empower every employee, from the front office to the people responsible for the load-in and out, to put their hearts, minds and souls into every event they produce.
Scott Waterbury
President and CEO

Scott Waterbury is an icon in the sound and lighting business. He virtually pioneered the sound and lighting industry in the southeast, and his influence and innovative ideas have garnered acclaim not only from his peers, but also from manufacturers, clients and vendors alike, nationwide.
Scott’s vision for his company, for his clients and for the industry in general set him apart from the norm. “At Atlanta Sound and Lighting, we envision a company that empowers its employees to excel in their respective disciplines by giving them the tools, the opportunities, and the expectation to excel. A company that interprets our customers’ vision through innovative applications of available technology, and creative budget management, and finally, a company that constantly challenges the limits of our industry by insisting that better, more cost effective ways to meet the ever changing, ever higher expectations of our clients, be at the forefront of their service to us.”
Mike Ertle
Director of Sales and Events

Mike Ertle has been in the sound and lighting business for more than 30 years. He started his career as a musician and soon diverged his attentions to the technical aspect of the business. Here, he was able to make use of his creativity and experience to positively impact the business.
Mike relocated to Georgia from Ohio in 1983 and his desire to have fun and entertain people soon led him to start his own sound and lighting company. He built, borrowed, fabricated and bought the equipment he needed to produce a continuous series of successful shows and events. When he met Scott Waterbury from Atlanta Sound and Lighting, they soon realized that they had similar goals and interests, and similar attitudes towards business and life. They soon became fast friends, and Mike joined the team in 1993. The rest, as they say, is history.
Bill Abner
Account Manager/ Project Manager

Industry veteran Bill Abner joined the ASL team as a Project Manager and Account Manager in 2003. His years as a live sound engineer, and his vast experience in event management has proved to be an invaluable addition. Bill uses that experience to ensure that ASL’s customers receive the highest level of customer service.
Thomas Smith
Audio Systems Manager
A product of the New York State School Music Association, Thomas has been a classically trained cellist since elementary school. He has played the Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York City. During his time at Ithaca College he became involved in Electroacoustics, ProTools production, session work, live sound reproduction and installing its SSL 4000 E/G+ console.
Thomas brings over ten years professional experience with him from New York, holding positions such as Production/Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Stage/Roof Technician and Back Line tech. As an audio engineer he has worked near 2,000 shows. As well as being a FOH/Monitor engineer and system tech he has engineered and archived broadcasts on FOX and NPR.
Brian Hatten
Lighting Systems Director

Brian Hatten has been with Atlanta Sound and Lighting since April of 2006. He moved to Atlanta following a decision to re-locate from Jacksonville Florida to escape the heat and humidity. (A plan which has so far backfired.) Brian has a BFA in Theatrical Design and Production from Florida State University. As a lighting technician, Brian has worked in countless theatres and arenas in the US and Canada touring with the Tony award winning musical RENT. Brian has designed for Corporate, Theatre, Music Video, Trade Show, Product Launch, Fashion, and most recently, live music and Concert.
Originally from Huntington, West Virginia, Brian has lived all over the east coast of the US from Connecticut, to North Carolina, from Florida to New York, but is glad to call Atlanta home now.
Brian drinks too much coffee, and is probably labeling something at this very moment.

Whether it's making sure ASL's books are up to date, answering the constantly-ringing phones, or just plain helping out, we couldn't do our jobs without her. Kate is truly a rennaissance woman. An accomplished musician, a Dean's list student, and a business owner in her own right, Kate's interests are truly eclectic.
